Duke Lake represents a fascinating Italo-Disco musical project created by Antonello Gabelli. Born in Parma, he began his career as a musician at the end of the 1960s, in 1969, when he replaced Fabrizio Levati as guitarist in the well-known Italian group "I Corvi", famous for hits such as "Sono un ragazzo di strada" and the cover of "Bang Bang”. In 1971, Gabelli left "I Corvi" to join the musical group "Nuova Idea" replacing guitarist Marco Zoccheddu. Duke Lake's single "Do You", released in 1983 under the "Memory Records" label, represents a significant chapter in the history of Italo-Disco music. This piece, arranged and composed by Otto Baciocchi and Antonello Gabelli, was recorded at the "Studio Master 33" in Cremona and performed by Gabelli himself. Stefano Cundari and Alessandro Zanni were the producers of this very successful single. With the pseudonym "Duke Lake", Antonello Gabelli enriched the panorama of Italo-Disco music with not only the single "Do You", but also with other significant works. In 1984, he released "Satisfaction, Love & Passion", followed in 1985 by "Dance Tonight". Under the record label "Memory Records", Antonello Gabelli demonstrated his extraordinary ability in arranging and composing, contributing significantly to the Italo Disco genre. Two songs of particular importance, the result of his creativity, are "Don't Stop Lovin'" by J.D. Jaber and "Elephant Song" by Mac Jr. In 1983, under the pseudonym Goomy, Gabelli distinguished himself as an arranger on the single "Time For Change" by Faxe. These works not only testify to Gabelli's artistic versatility, but have also left an indelible mark on the history of dance music. The story then unfolds in 1988, when Ennio Tricomi, founder of the record labels "Cruisin' Records" and "Hiara Dischi", brought his old companions from "I Corvi" back into the recording studio: Angelo Ravasini, Antonello Gabelli and Gimmi Ferrari. This renewed live activity by the group is a testament to the enduring musical connection between the artists over the years. The passing of Antonello Gabelli in October 2016 is a touching moment in music history, but it is touching to see how in 2017 the remaining members of "I Corvi" paid tribute to Gabelli through the "Lello Tour 2017". Music, once again, demonstrates its ability to pass on memories and celebrate an unforgettable talent.
