"N.O.I.A." are an Italian musical group founded in Cervia by singer Bruno Magnani and guitarist Davide Piatto. The "N.O.I.A." they are considered the first Italian electronic group and among the best exponents of Italo-Disco music. The group was founded in 1978, played "new wave" and "synth-pop" music and at the time was made up of five members: Bruno Magnani, Davide Piatto, Giorgio Giannini, Jacopo Bianchetti and Giorgio Facciani. They won the 1st Italian Rock Festival held in Rome in 1980. Their songs "Europe" and "Hunger In The East" were included in the "Rocker 80" compilation published by EMI. In 1981 "N.O.I.A." they participated in the "Electra 1- Festival for the ghosts of the future" event, a showcase of bands organized in Bologna. Oderso Rubini was present at the event and signed the band to a recording contract with "Italian Records". In the meantime Davide Piatto, with a guitar and a Roland TR-808, was significantly contributing to the creation of one of the songs considered seminal for Chicago house music: "Dirty Talk". “Klein & M.B.O.” it was a Boncaldo-Carrasco project and in a few months it reached the top of all the American charts with the song "Dirty Talk". In the first months of 1983 the "N.O.I.A." they remained in three members (Magnani-Piatto-Giannini) and released their first single "The Rule to Survive" (Looking For Love), a song much danced in all the discos. The single was recorded at the "Studio T2" in Bologna and it was then re-mixed by Tony Carrasco at the "Regson Studio" in Milan. In the recording studio, in addition to Magnani, Piatto and Giannini, there were Massimo Sutera on bass, Cesare Collina of the "Key Tronics Ensemble" on percussion, Luca Orioli on Prophet-5 synthesizer, Joanna Maloney and Lita Munich as backing vocalists. On the cover of the single "The Rule To Survive" two girls were photographed: Alessandra and Carolina. The song sold 12,000 copies. The follow-up "Stranger In A Strange Land" was released a few months later and was played by Luca Orioli with the brand new Roland TB-303 Bass Line instrument. Unfortunately, sales were a little lower than his debut album. In 1984 "Do You Wanna Dance?" was released, inspired by the part raps from "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. In that same year the mini album "The Sound Of Love" and the single "True Love" were released. The singer of "N.O.I.A." she is Rossana Casale, born in New York on July 21, 1959. Rossana began her musical career in the 70s as a backing vocalist for Riccardo Cocciante, Mina, Mia Martini, Loredana Bertè and Al Bano. In the 80s he participated as a singer in many dance productions: Klein & MBO, N.O.I.A., Kano and Mike Francis. The musical group N.O.I.A. disbanded in 1988 but returned to recording occasionally in the studio in the 1990s. In 2003 "Unreleased Classics '78-'82" was published, a collection of unpublished works that had remained in the drawer for a long time. All the songs composed in this collection were composed before signing with "Italian Records". Bruno Magnani died on 15 August 2021 in Cervia (Ravenna).
