KLEIN & M.B.O.
"Klein & MBO" is an Italian musical project formed by producers, authors and arrangers Mario Boncaldo (Italian) and Tony Carrasco (American). Mario Boncaldo was born in Sicily but moved with his parents to Forlì as a child. He began to be passionate about music as a boy and first studied piano and then guitar. Towards the end of the '60s he began working as a disc jockey and in the early '70s he became the resident DJ of the famous Romagna disco "Pineta Club" in Milano Marittima (where he remained for five years). In the early 1980s, Boncaldo befriended disc jockey Tony Carrasco, they decided to create a musical project and called it "B.B. & Band". In 1982 they achieved their first big success thanks to the single "All Night Long" which was followed by the second hit "The Special Magic". After this first successful project, Mario Boncaldo and his musician friend Davide Piatto started working on something new and created a demo. Once the work was completed they contacted Tony Carrasco, who was enthusiastic about that new musical base. The singer Rossana Casale and the jazz singer Naimy Hacket participated in the project. In 1982, under the label "Zanza Records" the first single of "Klein & M.B.O." was released. entitled "Dirty Talk". The recording was carried out in a studio in Forlì. In a short time, the mix album became an international underground hit. Under the pseudonym "Klein & MBO", other singles were released such as "Wonderful", "More Dirty Talk", "The MBO Theme" and "Keep On Touch". Some of their songs were released in the United States on the "Atlantic" label Records". The first and only album of "Klein & MBO" was initially released with the title "De-Ja-Vu" and was later renamed "First". The album was recorded using Roland synthesizers and Roland TR-808 drum machines while Davide Piatto (founder of the band "N.O.I.A" together with Magnani) played on guitar. Davide Piatto's work will not be officially recognized through the credits on the cover. Some say that "Dirty Talk" was Chicago's first house record, because it was played by DJs in the city's underground clubs. "Dirty Talk" was a great inspiration for many Italo-Disco songs released later. The French duo Miss Kittin & The Hacker covered "Dirty Talk" in 1998 for their EP entitled “Champagne In 2007, on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary, "Klein & M.B.O." released a new remix of "Dirty Talk".
