Via Verdi: The Story of an Italian Success
Via Verdi is an Italian musical group originally from Ancona, whose story is marked by a meteoric success in the 80s and a return to the scene after many years. The band was formed in 1983 from the creative meeting between guitarist Marco Grati and keyboardist Glauco Medori, both authors, arrangers, and music producers. Initially a duo, the Via Verdi project solidified with the arrival of singer Remo Zito and drummer Maurizio Varano.
The decisive turning point came in 1985, when the famous talent scout Claudio Cecchetto sensed the group's potential. The following year, in 1986, they launched the single "Diamond", a song destined to go down in the history of Italian music. "Diamond" immediately became a huge hit, reaching the top of the Italian and international charts and establishing itself as the theme song for the popular music program "DJ Television" on Italia 1 (Mediaset). It is estimated that the single sold over 4 million copies worldwide, establishing Via Verdi as one of the most fashionable bands of the moment. In the same year, the group won the prestigious "Telegatto" at the "Azzurro 1986" European Song Festival, held at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
The success continued with the second single, "Sometimes", which in turn was chosen as the new theme song for "DJ Television", further consolidating Via Verdi's popularity.
However, the idyll abruptly ended in early 1990. Shortly after the release of the single "Love Is A Dream", Remo Zito decided to abandon the music scene, leading to the dissolution of the group.
After a long period of silence, at the end of 1999, Via Verdi surprised fans with a guest appearance on the music television program "Meteore". The experience awakened the passion and desire to play together again, leading to the reformation of the band.
Today, Via Verdi has returned to perform at revival evenings throughout Italy, carrying on their contribution to Italian music and giving a dip in the past to the many fans who loved them in the 80s. The current line-up consists of Marco Grati (guitar and bass), Glauco Medori (keyboards), Luca Mancinelli (vocals), and Simone Medori (drums).
