Tony Esposito, born Antonio Esposito was born in Naples on 16 July 1950, and is an Italian musician, songwriter and percussionist. He started playing from a very young age and entered the session as a creative and imaginative percussionist. In the early 1970s, he collaborated with many important artists including: Francesco Guccini, Gino Paoli, Lucio Dalla, Pino Daniele, Roberto Vecchioni, Edoardo Bennato, Francesco De Gregori, Alan Sorrenti, Teresa De Sio. The solo debut took place in 1975 with the album "Rosso napoletano" produced by Paul Buckmaster. In 1976 the second album "Processione sul mare" was released and after the release of the third album "Gente Distratta" in 1977, he was awarded the Italian Critical Music Award. After participating in the Montreux Festival with the John McLaughlin orchestra he published "La banda del sole" (1978). In 1982 he released the album "Tamburo" and the single "Pagaia" became the theme song of "Domenica in" on RAI 1; for Tony Esposito it was the beginning of a recording boom. In 1984 and 1985 he won the Disco per l'Estate twice in a row with "Kalimba De Luna" and "As Tu As". With "Kalimba De Luna", Esposito sold 200,000 copies in Italy and over 5 million copies worldwide winning numerous gold records. In 1986 he won the Silver Ribbon for the soundtrack of "A complicated intrigue of women alleys and crimes" by Lina Wertmuller. In 1987 he participated in the Sanremo Festival with "Sinuè", and returned to the Festival the following year together with Eugenio Bennato with "Novecento aufwiedersehen"; will still be in Sanremo in 1993 with the Bicycle Thieves with the song "Cambiamo Musica". In 1997 he performed at the "Rock in Rio" festival with Gilberto Gil. He returned to the record business in 2003 with "Viaggio tribale", in which he collaborated with Franco Battiato and Edoardo Bennato. Married to Eleonora Salvadori, Tony has two sisters, Anna and Eva Esposito, and a brother, Pasquale Esposito.
