The "Universal Robot Band" was an American musical group composed of Gregory Carmichael, Patrick Adams, Leroy Burgess, Gregory Tolbert and Woody Cunningham. The group was created by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael in 1976. Their debut single, "Dance and Shake Your Tambourine", featuring Gregory Tolbert on keyboards, reached number twenty-five on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Singles chart and number forty-eight on the Billboard overall chart. The members of the Universal Robot Band came from the funk-disco group "Pipeline", which changed its name in 1972 to "Kleeer". The first lineup of this band included Woody Cunningham (vocals/drums), Richard Lee (vocals/guitar), Paul Crutchfield (vocals/percussion) and Norman Durham (vocals/bass/keyboards). In 1976, the group took on the new name "Universal Robot Band". In 1979, they signed with Atlantic Records and returned to the name "Kleeer". Having become a cult band in both the UK and US, Universal Robot Band/Kleeer enjoyed a string of hits on the R&B charts. In the United States, they reached the top 40 with three songs, while in the United Kingdom, they placed two tracks in the top 50, "Get Tough" and "Keep Your Body Workin'". Their music contributed significantly to the funk-disco music scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
