Severino de Oliveira known as "Sivuca", was born in Itabaiana (Brazil) on May 26, 1930. At nine years of age he had his first accordion as a gift from his father, who from that moment became his inseparable travel companion. At fifteen he began working for "Rádio Clube" in Pernambuco, in Recife. From 1948 it was part of the cast of the Rádio Jornal do Commércio. From 1955, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and made himself known in Europe as an accordionist for the group "Os Brasileiros". In the late 1960s he moved to Lisbon and then to Paris where in 1962 he was considered the best instrumentalist by the Parisian press. From 1964 to 1976 he lived in New York where he made a highly successful arrangement "Pata Pata", by Miriam Makeba, with whom he then toured the world until the end of the 1960s. He died on 14 December 2006, after a two-day hospitalization in Joao Pessoa, due to the aggravation of the tumor that had hit him in 2004. The first recording of "Ain't No Sunshine" was in 1971 and performed by Bill Withers but the version we all know and danced is that of Sivuca from 1974.
