Sharon Redd was born on October 19, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia. Sharon comes from a musical family: her father was a producer and musical director at "King Records", while her stepfather played with the Benny Goodman orchestra. Brother Gene Redd Jr. was a writer and producer for the bands Kool & the Gang and BMP; half-sister Penny Ford, on the other hand, is a singer with two active studio albums and collaborations as lead singer for the groups Snap!, Soul II Soul and The S.O.S. Bands. Sharon Redd began her musical career in 1968 by releasing four singles on the "United Artists" label. Three of these songs were written by Sharon, and were produced by songwriter and record producer Bobby Susser. Susser chose the "Hank Williams" song "Half as Much" as the first single from Sharon Redd. From 1969, Sharon devoted herself mainly to the musical stage, first acting in an Australian production of the musical "Hair", then in 1974 she moved to London to star in "The Wedding Of Iphigenia". In 1977 Sharon played the role of Sherrye in the US television series "Rhoda". In 1978 he participated as a guest in the musical “!Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". In 1979 he recorded the disco hit "Love Insurance", released by Panorama Records under the pseudonym "Front Page", without appearing in the track's credits. Thanks to this success, Sharon signed a recording contract with "Prelude Records" soon becoming the most successful artist of this label. Her debut studio album, 1980's self-titled "Sharon Redd" was followed by two more LPs: "Redd Hott" (1982) and "Love How You Feel" (1983). Several songs charted on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, including "Beat the Street", "Can You Handle It", "In the Name of Love" and "Love How You Feel". Sharon Redd died of pneumonia on May 1, 1992. The "Dance Music Report" magazine reported that the cause of death was due to complications of the AIDS virus. Sharon had a very weak immune system, which became ineffective after the singer stepped on broken glass on stage. In 1993, Sharon's vocals reappeared as a duet on the track "Under Pressure", featured on her half-sister Penny Ford's album of the same name.
