Robin S., pseudonym of Robin Stone, is
an American singer and songwriter born in Hempstead (New York) on April 27,
1962. In 1990, already a mother of two children, the artist worked as a
secretary in an office, performing on weekends in nightclubs in an R&B
band. Noticed by producer Fred McFarlane of "Champion Records", she
was asked to record the song "Show Me Love" written by Allen George
and Fred McFarland; released as a single, the song became a moderate success.
In 1993, Swedish disc jockey and record producer StoneBridge exploited the
track by making a remix, which was later re-released under the record label
"Big Beat Records" under the artist name "Robin S.". In the
same year, this release climbed the charts as did his first album, also titled
"Show Me Love". The remixed version of "Show Me Love"
reached No. 1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, No. 1 on the Hot Dance
Singles Sales chart, No. 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart and Tracks”
and the fifth position in the “Billboard Hot 100” chart. It also reached fourth
place on the “Rhythmic Top 40” chart. The success earned her a place at the
1994 "American Music Awards" as an artist.
Subsequent singles, "Luv 4
Luv" and "What I Do Best", met with similar success. By 2004,
the album “Show Me Love” had sold 303,000 copies in the United States. After a
break to focus on songwriting, Robin S. began collaborating with producers Eric
"E-Smoove" Miller and Todd Terry for his second album: “From Now On”
(1997). The album's first single, "It Must Be Love," reached No. 1 on
the “Hot Dance Club Play” chart for two weeks. The following single,
"Midnight", also reached number one on the "Hot Dance Club
Play", and achieved good success on the "Billboard Top 100
Charts", reaching number 35. The album "From Now On ” sold
approximately 100,000 copies in the United States. In 2016, Robin S.'s
collaboration with DJ Escape on the song "Shout It Loud" reached
number one on the US dance chart.
