“Ozo” was an English dub, soul and funk band founded in 1975. The band members were Hugh Ashton, Keni St. George, Val McDonald and Vernon Cummings. The debut took place in 1976 with the album "Listen To The Buddha". The “Title track” achieved moderate success and the band performed the song on TV next to a large Buddha statue. The last track of the album, Anambra, will become their biggest hit and undoubtedly their best song. “Anambra” is a mystical, rhythmic song, intertwined with a Buddhist mantra. This song is unique and spiritual, mixing African drums and nyabinghi with the Sanskrit mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” sung by Keni St. George. In the early 1980s, "Anambra River" was released, a more intense version with more accentuated bells and vibraphones. It's a nice version, but in my opinion it can't compete with the original.
