The "Kraftwerk" project was born in 1970 thanks to the two founding members, Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter. After meeting at the Dusseldorf conservatory, they began their collaboration within the "Organization" group. The two musicians, in the early months of 1970, recorded an album titled "Tone Float" produced by Conny Plank, future producer of the first Kraftwerk albums. The first album under the name "Kraftwerk" was recorded from July to September 1970 and released in 1971 together with percussionists Andreas Hohmann and Klaus Dinger. In 1971, shortly after recording the album, Ralf Hütter left the group leaving Florian Schneider together with drummer Klaus Dinger and guitarist Michael Rother. This formation will have a rather short duration, and a few months later the two founding members met excluding the two new arrivals. Within a couple of months, "Kraftwerk", now formed only by Hütter and Schneider, with the collaboration of Emil Schult on bass, recorded their second album released in January 1972 under the name "Kraftwerk 2". In 1973 the painter Emil Schult, former collaborator of the group in the previous album, whose style will inspire the group as regards the aesthetics of the albums, was hired as a graphic collaborator. The group opened their own recording studio called "Kling Klang", where they recorded their third album called "Ralf & Florian". In 1974 there was a further turning point within the group, the percussionist Wolfgang Flür and the guitarist Klaus Roeder entered. With the new line-up the "Kraftwerk", after six months of work, in November 1974 they published "Autobahn", which marked the definitive turning point by the group towards the kind of music that still distinguishes them today. In the early months of 1975, the "Kraftwerk", who remained in three after the abandonment of Klaus Roeder (before the end of the recordings of Autobahn), enrolled the young percussionist Karl Bartos thus forming the historical formation of the group. In October 1975 the album "Radio-Activity" was released and in the following six years their greatest masterpieces: "Trans Europe Express", The Man-Machine "and" Computer World ". The latter album was released in the midst of the computer boom and the group decided to start a new studio called "Technopop". After the release of the two albums "Tour De France" and "Electric Café", Wolfgang Flur and Karl Bartos will leave the group. The "Kraftwerk" are considered among the pioneers of electronic music, and have led to the birth of new musical genres. From the beginning of 2011 the "Kraftwerk" were engaged in a series of concerts throughout Europe and in 2017 the "The Catalog 3-D" box was released, published in several editions and includes their eight fully resonated discs. Florian Schneider died in Dusseldorf from cancer on May 6, 2020 at the age of 73.
