John Ozila,
pseudonym of Jean Tamegnon (Kandika, Labè, Guinea, December 29, 1949 –
Marseille, December 4, 2019), was a Guinean singer. He began his
musical career at a very young age, joining the bands "Black Soul"
and "Tropical Jazz de Dakar" before embarking on a solo career.
He moved to
France in the mid-1970s. After signing a contract with the French label Vogue,
he released his first solo album, Africa Goes Disco, in 1978. The
following year, John Ozila released his second album, Boogie Salsa, and
the single "Funky Boogie" became his most famous track.
Ozila passed away in Marseille on December 4, 2019, at the
age of 69.
