“Japan” is an English new wave band that formed in 1974 in Catford, South London. The band members were David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steve Jansen (drums) and Mick Karn (bass). The following year Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Rob Dean (lead guitar) joined the group. In March 1978 the band released their first single, a cover of "Don't Rain on My Parade", which was followed a month later by their debut album "Adolescent Sex". The band achieved success in the late 1970s and early 1980s, releasing nine UK Top 40 hits. In 1981 the album “Tin Drum” was released. “Canton” was the first song recorded in the studio for the album “Tin Drum” and the band was so satisfied with the final result that they decided to arrange the entire album inspired by that song. The band split in December 1982, just as they were starting to enjoy success in the UK and abroad. Its members continued with other musical projects, and in 1991 they reunited and released an album under the name “Rain Tree Crow”.
