“Imagination” was an English soul and dance group formed in 1981. The band consisted of Leee John (singer), Ashley Ingram (guitarist / bassist) and Errol Kennedy (drummer). Leslie McGregor "Leee" John, born in Hackney (London) on June 23, 1957, moved with his family to New York and returned to England as a teenager to study theater at the “Anna Scher Theater School”. He began working as a backing vocalist for the bands "Delfonics", "Chairmen of the Board", "The Velvelettes" and "The Elgins". During these performances, he met guitarist Ashley Ingram (born November 27, 1960 in Northampton, UK). John and Ingram formed a partnership to write songs, and decided to start a new band called "Slinky, Sexy And Erotic". During an audition, they met drummer Errol Kennedy (born June 9, 1953, Montego Bay, Jamaica) who from a very young age had learned to play drums in the Boys' Brigade and Air Training Corps. In 1981 the three musicians formed the group "Imagination" (the name was chosen as a tribute to the song "Imagine" by John Lennon). They sent a demo version of "Body Talk" to producers Steve Jolley and Tony Swain who released it as a single version in April 1981. The song reached # 4 on the "Official Singles Chart" in May 1981, selling 250,000 copies in the UK and staying eighteen weeks in the Top 50. Their biggest hit, "Just an Illusion", reached second position in the UK in March 1982 followed by "Music and Lights" (fifth position in June 1982), "In the Heat of the Night "and" Changes ". This resounding success was followed by a sold out concert tour in Europe, with 22 dates in the UK. Shortly thereafter their decline began rapidly… In 1987 they signed a contract with “RCA Records” and recorded two albums from which seven more singles were extracted. Their latest 1990 album "Fascination Of The Physical" was a failure and caused the band to disband in 1992. "Imagination" won 4 platinum, 9 gold and a dozen silver discs in all. the world between 1981 and 1983.
