Gino Soccio is a Canadian record
producer, composer and disc jockey of Italian origin born in Verdun (Quebec) on
9 September 1955. Gino began playing the piano at eight years old and at eleven
he knew how to play Bach sonatas. In the early 1970s, Gino Soccio was
influenced by electronic music and decided to rent synthesizers and start
composing songs in his home studio. His first work was in collaboration with
Canadian producer Pat Deserio who contacted him in 1975 to compose a song for
the album "Kebekelektrik". Gino was supposed to make a disco version
of Ravel's “Bolero”. In 1978, Gino Soccio released his first solo single
entitled “The Visitors”. His debut album “Outline” was released in 1979. The
album included the song “Dancer”, which reached number one on the US Dance
Billboard (for 6 weeks), number six in Canada and was the Soccio's only song to
enter the "UK Singles Chart". In 1981 the single "Try It
Out" achieved great success, it was the only Soccio song to enter the "Billboard
Hot 100" and reached first position on the "Billboard US Dance".
The third hit single "It's Alright" (1982), from the album "Face
To Face", reached number two for 5 weeks on the "Billboard Hot Dance
Music/Club Play". Gino Soccio produced many albums for various artists
such as Karen Silver, Witch Queen, Gotham Flasher and Guy Lafleur and wrote
some songs for Grace Jones.
