"Bumblebee Unlimited" was a disco band created in 1976 by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael. Patrick Peter Owen Adams, born in New York on March 17, 1950, was an American music arranger and record producer who amassed an impressive streak of 32 gold and platinum albums during his career. He has been primarily known for his production, songwriting, and engineering work at notable record labels such as Salsoul Records, Prelude Records, and others.
In 1976, Adams met Greg Carmichael at the Bumblebee Unlimited nightclub and together they decided to form a band using the club's name. Their first released single was "Love Bug", but their biggest success came a couple of years later with the famous song "Lady Bug". Recorded in early 1978, the song featured Leroy Burgess on vocals, Norbert Sloley on bass and Richard Taninbaum on drums. Patrick Adams' distinctive keyboards and arrangements, combined with Burgess's punchy vocals, contributed to the song's success. "Lady Bug" is considered by many to be one of the most emblematic tracks of the disco era.
Patrick Adams passed away on June 22, 2022 in Manhattan, due to cancer, at the age of 72.
