Roland Bautista was an American guitarist born on May 30, 1951. In 1967, Roland Bautista joined “Velvet Illusions”, a teenage band originally from Washington, playing guitar in live shows. He played for the first time as rhythm guitarist on the album “Last Days and Time” (1972) by “Earth, Wind & Fire”. He left the band soon after the album's release, but returned in 1981 to replace departed guitarist Al McKay. Bautista played again with the band “Earth, Wind & Fire” from 1981 to 1983 on the albums “Raise!”, “Powerlight” and “Electric Universe”. Bautista released two solo albums: “Bautista” in 1977 and “The Heat of the Wind” in 1978, both on the “ABC Records” label. In the early '80s, the single "Vida" in an accelerated version became a cult song and a real track filler of all Afro-funk music discos. Bautista died on February 29, 2012, at the age of 60.
