"Azymuth" is a Brazilian jazz group formed in the early 70s. Initially they were a "cover band" under the pseudonym "Grupo Seleção", formed by keyboardist Josè Roberto Bertrami, José Alexandre Malheiros and Ivan Conti. Only in 1973 did they change the name to "Azymuth" inspired by a song by Marcos & Paulo Sérgio Valle. In 1975 they released their first album "Azymuth" and achieved good success with the song "Linha do Horizonte". In 1979 the album "Light As A Feather" was released, which includes the songs "Jazz Carnival" and "Young Embrace". The trio moved to the United States in the early 1980s, producing a number of albums never released in Brazil, and betting on a mix of samba, funk and jazz. The main composer, keyboardist J. R. Bertrami, left the group in 1988 and was replaced by Jota Moraes and Marinho Boffa. Bertrami died in Rio De Janeiro on July 8, 2012 at the age of 66.
