The "Average White Band" was a funk band from Scotland, formed in the seventies in Dundee. The group consisted of Onnie McIntyre (guitar and vocals), Alan Gorrie (guitar and bass), Malcolm "Molly" Duncan (saxophone), Roger Ball (keyboard), Hamish Stuart (guitar and bass) and Steve Ferrone (drums). They made themselves known to the general public by playing as Eric Clapton's shoulder at the Rainbow Theater in London in 1973. In 1975 they reached the top of the American Billboard Hot 100 chart with the single "Pick Up the Pieces". In the early 80s in Italy, this song became a cult for all discos that offered Afro music.
