Alisha: The Freestyle Icon Who Conquered the Dance Floors
Alisha Ann Itkin, known simply as Alisha, is an iconic singer and performer in the freestyle and dance scene, born in Brooklyn on April 16, 1968. From a young age, Alisha demonstrated an innate passion for music, starting singing lessons at the age of eight. Recognizing her precocious talent, her parents actively supported her, organizing recording sessions to refine her vocal skills. At just 14 years old, Alisha joined the New York rock/dance band "The Babysitters," marking the beginning of her professional career. The demo recorded with the band caught the attention of producer Mark S. Berry of Vanguard Records, who was immediately struck by her voice. Berry offered her the opportunity to perform "All Night Passion," a single which, once released in February 1984, quickly climbed the dance charts, reaching number 4 on the "Hot Dance Club Songs."
In 1985, Vanguard Records released Alisha's debut album, an immediate success that included, in addition to "All Night Passion," other memorable tracks such as "Too Turned On" (number 6 on the Hot Dance chart in the United States) and the hit "Baby Talk," which reached the top of the "Billboard Hot Dance" chart in the US, establishing her as a rising star.
In 1987, with the support of Mark S. Berry, Alisha signed a record deal with RCA Records and released her second album, "Nightwalkin'." The album spawned the successful singles "Into My Secret" (number 9 on the Hot Dance chart in the United States) and "Let Your Heart Make Up Your Mind" (number 23 on the Hot Dance chart in the United States), further solidifying her position in the dance music landscape. After a three-year break, Alisha returned to the studio in 1990 to work on her third album, "Bounce Back." The title track, produced in collaboration with Michael Jay at the request of the president of MCA, reached the top 10 of the Hot Dance chart in the United States, demonstrating her ability to remain relevant and innovative.
In 1999, Alisha contributed to the soundtrack of the film "Superstar" with the song "You Wanna Be a Star (Superstar)," confirming her versatility and her ability to adapt to different musical contexts.
